Our favourite way to start the day
There's a particular kind of morning we chase. Early enough that the light is still soft (birds chirping), late enough that the coffee van has its machine warmed up. This weekend it was Burleigh Heads Farmers Markets, and honestly, it might be one of our favourite ways to spend a Saturday.
There's something about wandering between stalls with nowhere to be. No queues that matter, no schedule to keep. Just fresh produce, good coffee, the smell of something baking, and the sound of people who clearly love what they make talking about how they grew or made it. It's a feeling.

The small stuff is the good stuff
That part is what gets us every time. Almost everyone behind those tables is running something small. A flower stall someone started from their backyard. A sourdough baker who still does it all by hand. A jam maker using fruit from a tree two suburbs over. None of it is mass-produced, none of it is trying to be everything to everyone. It's just made well, by someone who cares, for the people standing right in front of them.
Why it feels familiar
It's not lost on us that this is a lot like how we think about Joyrolla. We didn't set out to make a hundred different products as fast as possible. We wanted to make a few things properly, with people who know what they're doing, and let them stick around. A farmers market is basically that idea, multiplied by fifty stalls and a really good iced latte.

What's in season right now
If you're heading to a market this winter, here's what to keep an eye out for:
- Citrus — mandarins, navel oranges and lemons are all in full swing
- Broccoli and cauliflower — classic winter veg, at their best right now
- Sweet potato and pumpkin — perfect for soups, roasts and anything slow-cooked
- Avocados — plentiful at the moment, several varieties on offer. Crazy to know this is not a summer fruit!
Good soup season, good market season.
Go find your own Saturday morning
So if you haven't been to a local farmers market in a while, that's our nudge. Find your nearest one, go early, bring cash if you can, and talk to the people behind the tables. You'll probably walk away with more than you planned on. We always do.

P.S. Our Farmers Market Hack is our Joyrolla Trolley, it really does make shopping a joyful experience, leaving you with no weight on your shoulders, and a free hand to hold that coffee. Just saying.
