We have some exciting news. The Vessel by Joyrolla is now stocked at Paramount House Hotel in Surry Hills, and honestly, it's the most fitting home we could have imagined for it. A beautifully considered hotel that was built around the idea that everyday objects should be things you love to use? That's our kind of place.
But let's be real, any excuse to spend a weekend in Surry Hills is a good one. So we asked ourselves: if you were checking into Paramount House for the weekend, what would the perfect Saturday look like?
Here's our edit.
Where You're Staying: Paramount House Hotel
Carved out of the original Paramount Pictures building on Commonwealth Street, Paramount House Hotel is one of those rare places that feels both effortlessly cool and genuinely warm. Raw concrete, considered furniture, rooms that make you want to stay in them.
On the ground floor, you have the Paramount Coffee Project. On the rooftop, Studio Mouvoir pilates and A.P. Bakery. In the basement, Golden Age Cinema. And right next door, Poly, one of the best wine bars in the city. You could, theoretically, never leave the building. We recommend leaving anyway, at lease for the Saturday.
And yes, you'll find the Vessel in the hotel's Store at reception, along with a selection of other beautifully designed everyday things. It's exactly where it should be.

Morning: Paramount Coffee Project
Start where you're staying. Paramount Coffee Project is one of those rare cafes that has the design and the coffee to match. The California-cool fitout, all warm timbers, good light, considered details makes it feel like breakfast in someone's very enviable home. Order whatever's on the seasonal menu, however we can recommend the rolled eggs and baked eggs (see below image). There's a whole neighbourhood waiting.

Mid-Morning: Studio Mouvoir
If you want to move before you shop and eat and drink (and you will eat and drink), Studio Mouvoir is right there on the Paramount rooftop. The reformer foundation class is the one to book if you're new. The sound system is exceptional. And there's A.P. Bakery right next door when it's done, which is either motivation or reward — depending on how you look at it.
Late Morning: Crown Street Shopping
Crown Street is Surry Hills' main artery, and it earns its reputation. A few stops worth making:
HAY Shop — hayshop.com.au The Danish design giant's Australian flagship, spread over two floors at 285A Crown Street. If you've ever wanted to redo your home in considered Scandinavian objects, budget some time (and willpower) here. Lighting, textiles, stationery, glassware — the kind of shop where you go in for a candle and leave with a floor lamp.
Elms Store — elmsstore.com.au A lifestyle store on Crown Street that stocks beautiful Australian and New Zealand brands with a focus on quality and sustainability. Fashion, skincare, homewares, wellness products — it's exactly the kind of edit you'd make yourself if you had the time.
Above the Clouds — abovethecloudsstore.com For the sneakerhead or streetwear-curious in your group. The Crown Street flagship has an eight-metre sneaker wall and a tightly curated selection of local and international labels including APC, Tekla, Hoka and Andersson Bell.
Title — titlestore.com.au Part bookshop, part record store, all Crown Street institution. Come in for a coffee table book, leave with a vinyl record. Broadsheet has said it before and we agree: a must-visit for anyone with taste.
SWAP — swop.net.au Just a short walk up Oxford Street into Darlinghurst, Swop is a pre-loved fashion exchange that's earned a serious following. The edit is curated and genuinely good, think quality second-hand pieces rather than a rummage. If you believe great style doesn't have to cost the earth (and given you're reading a Joyrolla blog post, you probably do), it's worth the detour.

One More Thing
While you're staying at Paramount House, the Vessel is available in the hotel Store at Reception. It's a good weekend bag companion, slim enough to slide into your tote, sturdy enough for everything from your morning coffee walk to a long Saturday afternoon on Crown Street.
